Consumer Protection Group Calls For Safe Cosmetics

December 29, 2012: 12:00 AM EST
The Campaign for Safe Cosmetics is calling on United States legislators to approve the Safe Cosmetics Act of 2011, which seeks to remove harmful ingredients from cosmetics products. Under existing U.S. laws and regulations, the U.S. Food and Drug Administration does not require cosmetics ingredients to be approved before they are released in the market. In August 2012, Johnson & Johnson pledged to remove trace amounts of cancer-causing chemicals from its toiletries and cosmetics by 2015, after facing pressure from groups, including the Campaign for Safe Cosmetics.
